Because of numerous spam postings, I have been forced to make registration for this forum subject to my confirmation.

New members who genuinely want to talk about the Free Fringe are encouraged. Please do not be deterred. It will take a short while for your membership to be activated. Please use a member name that can be easily recognised, such as your own name; this will save me checking.

Thank you

I have also disabled signatures. It appears that the main objective of spam posters is to gain rankings from Google for their sites, and they gain that by having links to their sites in their signature blocks on as many bulletin boards as they can spam.

I hope nobody genuine is inconvenienced by this.

There's no need. If the spammers can't post (cos you havent confirmed them), then there's no way for their signatures to show. I think it'd be good to have signatures so we can all leave our gig dates in them, and know where everyone else is on the day (or month) :)

I've locked the forum against new members. Which is not what I wanted. But we have had far too many spammers trying to join.

Email me if you want to join and I'll arrange it.

If you're a Free Fringe performer, you already have my email address.

Thanks

Forum now open again

Postby PBH » 02 Feb 2009, 22:21

With many thanks to those who understand these things better than I, improvements have been made to the site and thus the extreme anti-spam precautions I had previously taken are no longer necessary.

It is now possible to join the forum again. For the time being, there is still a confirmation process and thus a small delay, but this is an improvement.
