The venue - what sort of venue is it? Pub, Bar, Club, Restaurant... What sort of clientèle normally frequent this venue

It's a nightclub, during the day (when our show took place) it attracted lots of different types of people including whole families.

- The performance area - stage, separate room, open air?

1 8x4 steel deck stage on the dance floor of the nightclub

- The team of staff at the venue - did they assist the shows? Did the show get in the way of the normal business etc?

Staff were extremely helpful and accomodating, could not have done more to help us.

- How you advertised your show - Fringe brochure, flyering, posters, word of mouth etc

Free Fringe Brochure, Twitter, Facebook, and two of us flyered for 90 minutes before the show on the Royal Mile

- How your shows went in terms of audience numbers - solid numbers every show? Did it vary by day? Affected by weather?

Average of 100 people, busiest day was over 200 and quietest (a Tuesday) was around 60.

- Your show itself - what worked, what didn't work, what needs to change

We tweaked the show almost daily, adding different illusions and jokes. It was a brilliant experience. The major mistake we made was over estimating the stage space, we brought some illusions (large props) to Edinburgh which were never used due to size constraints.

- Buckets - we don't need accounts, but how were the donations to the buckets - bad, good, generous

The amount was fairly well reflected against how we felt the show had gone. The amount greatly increased when we made a more thought out pitch towards the end of the show, rather than just a small mention as we did during our first couple of shows. We realised the pitch is VERY important and should be thought about just as carefully as the show itself.

- Technical set-up at the venue - what worked, what didn't work, what needs to change

Stage should really be raised up due to the high footfall of audience members, many at the back of the room simply cannot see. On the first day the stage was only lit with the nightclub lights and was far to dark (almost impossibly so). We went and purchased a £20 halogen lamp on a dimmer which all the shows used to illuminate their performances, it seemed to work well.

- Admin & Communication process (between Free Fringe, Captains, Venues and you) - what worked, what didn't work, what needs to change

In the venue it was fine, we felt. We are not sure if this is the right place to put it, however we feel in 2012 there should be specific guidelines regarding what can and more importantly what should not be emailed out to everyone on the mailing list. There was a lot of spam and conversations which did not belong in our business email account.

-Any other learning points for anyone involved - what worked, what didn't work, what needs to change
We learned that the relationship with the show before and the show afterwards is very important and could potentially cause some problems. A meeting at the start of the fringe where you can meet and discuss technical details which the shows either side of our own would have been beneficial, but we didn't meet them until day one, which was slightly stressful.
